Helen Cooper was a dedicated nurse, distinguished military veteran, and generous benefactor whose life’s work left a lasting impact on the nursing profession. A retired Army nurse and retired Department of Defense civilian nurse, she devoted her career to caring for others in both military and federal service. Beyond her professional roles, Ms. Cooper was a committed lifetime member of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc. and a devoted member of Concerned National Black Nurses of CSRA, where she championed excellence, mentorship, and service among Black nurses. Even after her passing, her commitment to advancing nursing continued: she left a meaningful legacy by donating funds posthumously to both chapters, ensuring future generations of nurses would be supported in education, leadership, and community service.
The Helen Cooper Scholarship Program supports nursing students who demonstrate academic achievement, leadership, community involvement, and a commitment to improving the health and social well-being of African Americans and other culturally diverse communities.
